After settling on the final concept that our project would be based I did not do much sketching save for some logistical drafting and mocking up of the final product... Much more physical material was needed than with my original concept meaning most of the physical work I ended up doing was architectural.
Nevertheless here are the sketches I produced through the creative process...

The original Spaceballs poster coinciding with its theatrical release is a good example of comedy. The work itself follows the patterns of Star Wars yet its more original and unique in its execution as opposed to Blue Harvest for example that simply copies the artwork while placing the Family Guy cast in place of the original. Being one of the best satirists Mel Brooks took the Star Wars mythology and made it his own. What really makes this work humorous is the fact that though its abstract the cast is actually painted in such a way that they occupy the same space as you see vertically challenged Dark Helmet trying desperately to reach over the films title.
With this Poster of John Carpenters "The Thing" The sensibilities of the viewer are completely violated with a grotesque and almost surreal image though this what I chose to depict shock. The juxtaposition of something familiar with the distorted and twisted alien forms is both bizarre and revolting to the senses.
For surrealism I chose the poster of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The figure melts and twists into the background that is clearly daytime desert landscape while nightime Las Vegas reflects in Hunter Thompsons aviators, with the visage of the bats evolving into paint splatter.
The original poster for A Nightmare On Elm Street was chosen for disruption. the combination of the shocked awakening of the female figure due to the intrusion of Freddie and the literal intrusion of Freddies almost skeletal taloned hand combine to create a freeze of action caused by action.
